BEWARE of Anti-abortion Clinics!
Kentucky has the 18th highest number of anti-abortion clinics of all states in the U.S.
They are also called Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs), Pregnancy Resource Centers or fake clinics.
Major expert health organizations warn that they pose risks to individuals, family and public health. CPC State Fact Sheet

NAF is the primary professional standard-setting and training organization for abortion providers in the United States. The 300 members across the country follow NAF’s Clinical Policy Guidelines, which are updated annually to insure state-of-the art care and medical safety.
What are Anti-abortion Clinics or Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs)?
National Abortion Federation – What are Crisis Pregnancy Centers?
Be careful when looking for a reliable health center, because there are anti-abortion centers that claim to offer information about pregnancy options and abortion. They call themselves Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs). Some groups call these “fake clinics“.
They are run by people who don’t believe in giving you honest facts about abortion, pregnancy, and birth control. CPC’s have used tactics intended to delay and even harass or intimidate women from making the choice best for them and even give out false, and misleading information in order to dissuade women from choosing abortion.
They use the name “Crisis Pregnancy Center” to confuse people and trick them into visiting them. They are unregulated, oppose contraception and comprehensive sex education, frequently provide inaccurate medical health information and do not adhere to ethical or medical practice standards.
Anti-abortion Clinics or Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) have a long history of intentionally misleading women to prevent them from accessing abortion care. For example, some intentionally choose their name to mislead women into believing that they offer a wide range of services, including family planning and abortion care, when in fact they offer neither.
Anti-abortion Clinics or CPC’s advertise near the headings of abortion, pregnancy, women’s centers or clinics. CPCs may locate themselves near legitimate abortion care providers (like us) as a deliberate attempt to lure patients into visiting their centers. They generally will not refer for abortion care or birth control.
For your own protection, ask the CPC you contact if they provide abortion care or give abortion referrals. Evasive and unclear answers to this question should make you suspicious.
Public health and medical organizations warn that CPCs pose risk to individual, family, and public health
Multiple health and medicine organizations have position statements on CPCs, such as:
- American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
- American Medical Association (AMA)
- American Public Health Association (APHA)
- North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (NASPAG)
- Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM)
In addition to operating centers, many CPCs are also involved in teaching sexual abstinence-only-before-marriage programs in local public schools. Major international and national health organizations — such as the World Health Organization (WHO), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Public Health Association (APHA), and Society of Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM) — support evidence-based comprehensive sex education and warn abstinence-only programs are ineffective and may be harmful.
